Contract Position

Background:
The Indigenous Medicine Conservation Fund (IMC Fund) is an Indigenous-led Initiative ensuring Indigenous traditional medicine communities have everything they need to conduct biocultural conservation of their knowledge, medicines and territories. 

We work through funding, trusted partnerships, technical support and strategic engagement in the larger world. Our work and actions lead to a future where Indigenous medicine communities are fortified to successfully navigate mounting pressures from psychedelic interest and ecological crises. www.imc.fund

We are currently seeking to elevate the long-term impact of our work as a public-facing entity, particularly in western spheres of philanthropy, psychedelics, the climate and biodiversity protection fields, and the intersections of those movements.

To create lasting structural change in both the territories where we work and in mainstream society we must increase our ability to fundraise, the sophistication of our narratives, as well as our ability to inform the public and our partners. We occupy a particular niche and apart from supporting our partners to do important conservation work for the future of Indigenous medicines and knowledge systems, a major goal of the IMC Fund is to influence behavior change at policy, business, and individual end-user levels. 

The IMC Fund prides itself in being deeply thoughtful and ethical, and alignment of our messaging with the results of community-based assessments and committed long-term relationships with our partners on the ground is essential. We recognize the outsized impact that the Psychedelic Movement is having on the keystone biocultures we support and seek to intervene positively for our partners’ benefit.


Role:
The Narrative Change Specialist is a contract position to work with our core leadership team to assess our current branding/messaging and develop a narrative change strategy using simple language that accurately conveys the values of the IMC Fund and the messages of our partners on the ground, and lands with target audiences in a way that inspires sharing. The contractor has experience facilitating multi-stakeholder groups and demonstrates both deep listening and authority to be able to drive a collective process and inspire a movement. The work will involve an analysis of our current materials, a series of sessions with our executive team and development of a medium-term strategy (2 years) to impact significant narrative and behavior change using communications platforms.


Key Responsibilities

  • Drive a process of strategy development for influencing narrative and behavior change

  • Review with team current branding/messaging and assess for 

    • Effectiveness and/or with target audiences (psychedelic movement, climate audiences, interested public, funders in various spaces, on-the-ground partners)

    • Agreement/alignment with Conservation Committee members and on-the-ground partners

  • Develop public relations strategies for

    • Growing our audiences

    • Increasing engagement with our audiences

    • Landing our messaging/mission in mainstream narratives

    • Collaborating with media and other partners to increase reach and elevate importance of our work

  • Develop Indigenous speakers’ bureau and determine the most effective places for those voices to be impulsed (e.g. webinars, conferences, private meetings, etc.)

  • Support development of ambassador program and other key fundraising efforts, including developing easily shareable and consistent messaging/ambassador kit


Experience and professional qualities / Expectations for position:

  • Experience supporting large and culturally diverse stakeholder groups

  • Demonstrated commitment to ecological, social justice and/or Indigenous issues

  • Experience at the executive level in narrative development, public relations, or executive coaching and branding 

  • A keen eye for effective branding and design to get messages across to multiple stakeholder groups

  • Ability to demonstrate and coach on effective writing styles, unification of voice, and experience editing a plus

  • Experience working with non-profit organizations

  • Familiarity with different social media platforms a plus

  • Able to drive a project to completion while being responsive to feedback and multiple inputs 

  • Able to be flexible and work in a fast paced and ever changing work environment

  • Competency with cultural sensitivity 

  • English and/or Spanish speaking fluency 


Timeline & Compensation: This is a contract position starting in April 2025 and expected results should be delivered within 6 months. Possibility of extension of the role if the contractor is a good fit for the IMC Fund work. Send proposals for compensation.

Webs Designer: Major Website Upgrade

Contract Position

The Indigenous Medicine Conservation Fund (IMC Fund) works to ensure a thriving future for Indigenous peoples, their medicines, and knowledges, for generations to come. The IMC Fund is a 501(c)(3) registered not-for-profit organization in the United States. We partner with global Indigenous organizations working in the biocultural conservation of 5 keystone medicines: Ayahuasca, Peyote, Iboga, Mushroom, and Toad. We raise funds and provide technical support in a relationship-based container to build trust and serve as a bridge between Western philanthropy and Indigenous organizations and groups working for the health of their territories and cultures.

We are currently seeking a skilled web developer for a major website upgrade. This is a deliverables-based contract with the intention of revamping our website for improved user experience and efficiency, including navigation of existing content and build-out of new sections of the site, including developing language-versions of the site in Spanish, French, and Portuguese. 

Skills & Expectations

  • Mastery of Framer platform and CMS-based redesign

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples preferred; ability to understand nuance and respond to feedback accordingly

  • Quick response time

  • Evidence of satisfied clients in building user-friendly websites and effectively conveying mission and messaging

  • Skill with multiple integrations to improve user experience (including widgets, mailchimp, contact forms, and social media integration)

  • Ability to train and onboard a small team (3-5 people) in making basic edits using Framer platform

  • Skill in brand management preferred

  • Ideally able to use Asana to monitor project flow and management

  • Ideally experienced in building websites for not-for-profit or fundraising organizations

  • Fluent English required, fluent or high level Spanish preferred, additional French and Portuguese are assets


Timeline

This is an immediate start position with a first draft of the upgrade expected within 1.5 months followed by two rounds of review and feedback, with a final product expected within 3 months of starting. Training sessions for staff can be during the development process or after the final product is complete and will be required

Process and Delivery

The contractor will work closely with the Communications Advisor through the first round of upgrade and will ultimately be responsible to the Co-Executive Directors and the Director of Strategic Relationships for final approval. Feedback processes that take longer on our end will not be the contractors’ responsibility, and we hope to build an understanding and communicative relationship with the contractor to ensure satisfaction across multiple stakeholder groups.

Compensation
